How many of us had the courage to listen to our heart? To follow our dreams?
Well this one particular boy did.
And he is now the proud owner of his very own candy store.
His journey is truly inspiring and so are his friends who displayed the true meaning of friendship.
LollyTalk, an up and coming new store opening in Plaza Singapura on 4 Jan 2013 is THE dream come true for this particular boy. He took the leap of faith 2 years ago on a journey to learn the art and skill of rock candy; in a land 15000 kilometres away, Australia: the home and origin of rock candy.
Believing that hard work, sincerity and learning from the best will help him fulfill his dream, he became a student of Australia’s famous Rock Candy Masters Ross and Judy; whom both holds the title of Grand Champion Rock Candy and multiple awards at 2009 Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards, Australia’s premium fine food event.
Held annually, the Royal Melbourne Fine Food Awards gives recognition to outstanding producers in the Australian fine food industry, including all its major candy and dessert makers. Ross and Judy were awarded the Gold medal for their fruit rock mix, silver medal for lolly pops and bronze medal for design candy.
LollyTalk may not be the first rock candy maker to arrive Singapore, but comparing with the other local rock candy makers, LollyTalk descends from a true lineage of Australia’s famous rock candy and have the best masters with authentic recipes in the arena of rock candy. After months of learning, this boy brought the tradition and heritage home to Singapore and started LollyTalk.
Friends came to his aid like knights in shining armour.Throughout his journey of building his candy island, this little boy’s friends displayed the true meaning of friendship in helping him build his dream, his world.
From character designs to taking lovely photographs, and even by building bridges to more exposure in Singapore. These are friends he is truly thankful for, for their sincerity, hard work and effort. Together through thick and thin, these are really what friends are for!
I was very privileged to have a sneak peak at LollyTalk’s Candy Island in Plaza Singapura before it is opened this Friday, 04 January 2013!
The entire store is still behind the hoarding as it is still work in progress!
While I was expecting only an empty shop with its infrastructure; a rainbow coloured, almost ready store greeted me. The splash of orange candy packages in the entire store instantly lifts your mood!
With an overall concept inspired by gaming characters, the Korean-inspired design store is set to delight both adults and children, bringing all instantly into a Willy Wonka candy world. Colourful background and cute characters will definitely make you shutter happy.
Candy making also happens right there in the store, where you can experience and probably taste first hand those mouth watering yummy candies!
Oh yes, talking about candies, we all want to know the verdict on the taste right??
Well, I personally tried the watermelon, grape, passion fruit and mango flavours right there in the store and I must say, the taste is absolutely authentic! The candies taste just like fruit juices crystallised into those yummy candies. You can tell right away that LollyTalk puts in the effort to ensure the flavours are good and yummy!
Unlike another competitor brands, LollyTalk’s candies are flavourful and most importantly, according to my mum, its centre doesn’t stick to the tongue like the other brands do.
Well, if a hard critic such as my mum likes it, you can know it’s really good!
In my opinion, LollyTalk’s pineapple and mango flavour candy reminds me of the fruity-tuty drinks I get from hawker stores or pasar malams. Watermelon flavour candy reminds me very much of this watermelon slice lollipop in my childhood memory.
LollyTalk currently has developed more than 50 flavours of candies and carries about 15 to 20 flavours in the store at any one time. What really puts them above the rest is their ‘Retro series’. With flavours like ice cream soda and Sarsi, how could you not resist them!! Well, with its owner a Singaporean himself, he knows exactly what candy flavours we want!
LollyTalk takes pride in perfecting the flavours of their candies and is proud of their heritage.
The candy designs and shapes also pays tribute to the homeland of rock candy.
These candies ain’t going to burn a hole in your pocket either!
It is retailing at SGD$3.30* – SGD$4.30* for a 70gram handy pack, that comes conveniently with a resealable zip-top bag. They also come in a box that is great for gifts! For 150grams, it is retailing at SGD$8.30* onwards.
LollyTalk is also open to corporate orders.
