It’s been almost a week that I came back from my vacation and I’m scrambling to clear work and school assignments.
One miracle that happened to me is: I lost 3kgs from my vacation.
Don’t ask me how I did it, I don’t know how!
I had thought about my trip and only a handful of things I remembered doing were:
- I walked ALOT. Be it Hawaii or Tokyo, I resorted to walking to find the places I wanted to visit since some buses don’t reach the places.
- I only had one main, good meal a day. Mainly cause food in Hawaii and Japan tend to be pretty pricey. Of course you can get cheap and good sushi now and then but if you are out and about, the average amount one will spend would be USD10 a meal and I wanted to stretch all my money for my trip, so I scrimped on the food.
I usually have my noni beverage and a glass of water in the morning and that kept me full almost for the next 3 to 4 hours. So I usually resort to have small breakfasts or late breakfasts that would last me then to late afternoons where I will have the 1 good meal then.
- I tried not to eat until my stomach bloats. It was rather a psychology factor here cause I forgotten my digestive supplement and in actual fact, it does take awhile for me, or even anyone, to feel full. I usually eat some, pack the rest or buy a snack (spam musubi, sandwich or senbei) and keep in my backpack. I will only eat them if I feel hungry later on. Often, the leftovers became dinner and my snacks will land in the fridge and become tomorrow’s breakfast.
- I drank water rather than sweet drinks. And I will limit my sweet drink to one carton every day or every other day, depending on what I eat during that day. I still like my coke and green tea but I would tend to purchase the latter after some thinking in a supermarket. I stayed away Starbucks most of the time, again mainly because it was expensive, unless I had a long day tour ahead where food may be difficult to find. I always keep a snack and my bottle of water in my backpack so I always know I have something to eat and drink in my backpack and to reduce waste, that idea of the snack and drink in my backpack stopped me from buying more snacks and food.
- I stared at myself in the mirror every morning to check for double chin. Being heavy all my life, I had noticed 2 things: My face gets bloated first before I notice any weight gain. I will experience shortness of breath whenever I gain weight. I made sure I had none of those during my trip.
- I try not to stay out late. I arrive home and sleep early. I’ll usually start my journey back to my hotel room or rental apartment at around 8pm and I will start winding down, looking through photos and chat with friends back in Singapore until 10pm where I will naturally feel sleepy and go to bed.
- And the most important: being in a foreign country and on a vacation, I had less to worry and think about. I only had to think about where to go next and what to eat tonight.
Having the mind switched to relax mode is a huge motivation to do all the activities and walking which I will just ignore and choose to sleep instead.
I felt that the concept of things being expensive and knowing I will always have food on hand or in my room kept me away from eating more.
Lots of walking and the concentration in finding places instead of other pressing issues made me exercise more confortably and unconsciously.
Now back home, I am also keeping this same idea on eating less, staying away from bloatness and less Starbucks coffee. I walk up on stairs at the train stations instead of the escalator.
Coming home from a vacation also had reduced a significant amount of stress from me and I felt that I am living in a more positive mental state of mind than before.
I hope that these measures will help me lose another few kilos in the next few months!
If you like to try the way I did, I would love to hear your progress!
Let me know if these methods helped you lose some weight or have a more relaxed state of mind.
Remember that everyone’s body and physique is different, so do not expect these methods work miracles.
Always have a postitive mind first and foremost, and the rest will fall into place.
That is what I always felt travelling is all about.
Till next time!
